Cyberpunk TCG – Official AMA FAQ Answers provided by WeirdCo Staff (cybergrumpTCG)
Q: Do you have a contract for the Cyberpunk IP? If so, how long before it needs to be renewed?
A: Yes, we have a long-term partnership with CD Projekt Red to produce the Cyberpunk TCG. The terms of the contract are confidential, but we want to support the Cyberpunk TCG for years and years to come!
Q: Do you have a license to explore more of the R. Talsorian TTRPG world, and what is the relationship between this project and R. Talsorian?
A: We have a lot of respect for R Talsorian and the universe that Mike Pondsmith has created. While we have nothing new to announce at the moment, we are in active conversations with CDPR and R Talsorian regarding the project.
Q: How many sets per year can we expect? 3–4, or as many as 10?
A: As players ourselves, we know how frustrating it can be when there are too many releases in a short period of time. Our approach is to release fewer sets than the industry average, so players and collectors have time to fully enjoy each one without feeling like they have to constantly keep up. This also gives us the space to make sure each release meets our quality standards, even if that means a bit more time between sets. We'll evolve that cadence as needed to make sure there's fresh content to enjoy and as we learn more about what the audience appreciates.
Q: What will the release schedule look like post-Kickstarter?
A: The first thing we can share is that we will have a retail release shortly after delivering the Express Shipment to Kickstarter backers. We are 100% committed to supporting a full-scale TCG with multiple sets a year, with a Set 2 goal of Q1 2027. We will be announcing the theme of that set later this year — the team is already working with CDPR on it. We were just in CDPR's Boston HQ going through this question yesterday and aligning with their roadmap!
Q: How many sets has your team already planned or begun work on?
A: We have already planned content, designs, and themes for several sets into the future. On the set theming and narrative, we are tightly working with CDPR on matching sets up with their future content pipeline, including unannounced projects!
Q: Is there a roadmap we will see soon?
A: While we are heads down on a successful Kickstarter launch and polishing the gameplay release, we have an internal roadmap dictating the next two years. We're currently working on Sets 2 and 3 with target 2027 releases! Set 2 will have players on the edge of their seat!
Q: Is the current number of Kickstarter backers close to your estimates, or has it far exceeded your forecasts? Is there any concern for production delays?
A: The support we have received for the Kickstarter campaign has been incredible! We are extremely happy with the number of backers on the project so far — we can't thank you all enough! In regards to potential production delays, no campaign is without its risks, but at the moment we feel confident that we will meet the estimated delivery timeline outlined on the Kickstarter page regardless of the number of backers. The team has experience printing and shipping millions — if not tens of millions — of packs in our collective TCG careers, so we are ready to scale our efforts as needed.
Q: Does WeirdCo anticipate that the additional backers and stretch goal add-ons will impact fulfillment timelines? Is it still possible to fulfill inside of 2026?
A: We're currently confident we will be able to fulfill this project by the end of the year. No campaign is without risks or delays, but we're working with fulfillment partners to make sure we can deliver. We can't wait to overdeliver for you!
Q: This seems like a logistically complex project with 2 waves of shipping and over 60 items. Do you have a global logistics partner?
A: We have many logistics partners located around the world that we talk to daily. We feel confident that we can hit the estimated delivery timelines! The team has experience printing and shipping tens of millions of packs in our TCG careers — we can scale!
Q: When are you planning on releasing information about card pull rates and the size of the set?
A: We've heard the community loud and clear on this one. A Kickstarter update will be released very soon discussing the size of the Kickstarter set and going into pull rates. Since we collaborate closely with CD Projekt Red on approvals, it helps us make sure everything is exactly right and you all get the best product and answers possible!
Q: How are foil cards going to work in booster packs? Are only certain rarities foil?
A: All rare cards and above are foil. The higher the rarity, the more foil treatments, texturing, stamping, and other effects will be added to the card. Commons and uncommons come in non-foil, although we may have additional ways to get foil versions of common and uncommon cards in the future.
Q: Where does Cyberpunk TCG stand in terms of print/card stock quality? Closer to One Piece TCG or more like Lorcana/Pokémon?
A: Closer to Riftbound and One Piece for sure. We did a lot of sampling to make sure we got to where we wanted to be on card stock quality.
Q: How much have you tested with colorblind players?
A: We are making sure that our game is accessible to all who want to play it. Our symbology exists on the cards to be distinguishable from each other without the use of color.
Q: Will draft be a supported format upon retail release?
A: At launch, our focus with the first set is on delivering a strong and accessible core 1v1 constructed experience for casual and competitive play. While the product was designed using some industry best practices to produce a reasonable draft-esque experience, we won't be supporting it in an official capacity at launch. That said, we absolutely recognize how valuable draft formats are for onboarding and community play, and it's something we're open to exploring in the future or potentially supporting through dedicated products or later expansions. For now, players will still be able to enjoy more flexible formats like sealed.
Q: Will pre-graded V: Corporate Exile be a Pristine 10 for every backer?
A: We have a strong relationship with CGC and are hoping to be able to do this for our community, but cannot guarantee this.
Q: What rarity will the pre-graded V card have?
A: V – Corporate Exile is a rare!
Q: Will we ever be able to receive a non-metal copy of the Kickstarter-exclusive female V Streetkid card?
A: Yes! You will be able to find the non-metal version of the female V – Streetkid in booster displays.
Q: What strategies or incentives does WeirdCo have to convince hesitant LGS owners that Cyberpunk TCG is worth the investment despite TCG fatigue?
A: While we recognise that the TCG market is competitive and stores have limited play space, we think Cyberpunk is a unique IP with a successful video game and anime. Cyberpunk is in its own genre entirely and we know we will be bringing in a whole new audience to local card shops. Some stores will be skeptical initially, but those who come onboard are supported to make sure our communities are given the best experience in terms of products and organised play material. Our specific recommendation for any player in this situation would be to rally all the Cyberpunk fans and speak with the owner with one voice — the bigger the community, the stronger the case. We also have an allocation guarantee program for in-store play through our authorised distributors that we feel is highly compelling for stores.
Q: Will organised play events be Best of 3? Will there be sideboards? Will there be promo prize packs?
A: The Cyberpunk TCG is currently being designed to support a Best of 3 experience — one of the main strengths of the Dynamic Gig system! Our Organised Play formats (both constructed and sealed) will be Best of 3. We're in the late stages of testing what the ideal round time will be and will have info soon. As far as promotional cards and materials go, we will have promos for every event listed on our Organised Play Structure. These will include special foiling, alt-arts, and more across a variety of events. We will be making an announcement following the conclusion of our Kickstarter regarding our Organised Play platform. It's still a little early for us to talk about sideboards, but we are eager to reveal more closer to retail release and running local and competitive events.
Q: Does your license with CDPR expire? Do you plan to create unique events with exclusive promotional cards?
A: The terms of our partnership with CDPR are confidential; however, we fully intend to continue being CDPR's partners for years and years to come. All events featured in our Organised Play Structure will have promo cards associated — some will have different frames, different foiling treatments, or event-exclusive art.
Q: Are you aiming to compete with the giants of the TCG market, or targeting a smaller audience?
A: We're looking forward to making a place for ourselves as a widely played and enjoyed TCG in the industry. While we appreciate and respect the work of other TCGs, we're focused on making sure our game is as good as it can be so players can pick it up and enjoy it for themselves!
Q: What about localisation into other languages like German and French?
A: We have announced that French will be the first card localisation for the retail version of Cyberpunk TCG. More details to come on the specific timeline.
Q: Are there any plans for Portuguese localisation for Brazil?
A: No plans for Portuguese localisation at this time, but if we see enough demand from the community, we will definitely consider it in the future!
Q: Will future sets go through Kickstarter?
A: Future sets will not be run through Kickstarter. We want to support retailers and LGS as much as possible as we continue to grow Cyberpunk TCG. These are the lifeblood of TCG communities and it's very important for us at WeirdCo to support them as we release future sets.
Q: Will the sleeves, deckboxes, and playmats currently on Kickstarter be available through retail stores after the campaign ends?
A: These will be Kickstarter exclusive.
Q: Will any of the accessories be available post-Kickstarter to purchase separately?
A: All our reward and add-on accessories are Kickstarter-exclusive. We want them to be a badge of honour for folks who supported us early. But we will release other accessories in the future!
Q: Would there be an option for multiplayer play (3–4 players)?
A: We have been working internally and with a few partners on what this will look like. While we are focused on 1v1 for Set 1, we can't wait to work with you all and build what the community wants for other formats.
Q: Any plans to adapt rules for multiplayer games such as 2v2 or 4-player?
A: The game has primarily been designed and balanced around a one-on-one experience, so multiplayer formats aren't something we're specifically supporting at launch. That said, we know players often come up with creative alternative formats of their own, and we think community-driven experimentation is great. It's definitely something we'll be watching with interest, and it could inspire more official support down the line.
Q: Will there be a digital client?
A: We think a digital client is a great idea, but we have no announcement to make at this stage. There are no plans for an online client at this time.
Q: Will there be a Tabletop Simulator pack?
A: We will not be publishing an official TTS version of Cyberpunk TCG. We will let the community create their own digital simulators, as long as they are not monetised.
Q: Do you have an event finder planned?
A: Yes, 100% — we are absolutely committed to having an event finder and will have robust organised play support. The team has experience working with all events and organised play software systems in the market. More to come on this front!
Q: Will you make it easier for players to find one another locally?
A: We will 100% have a store locator and event finder that will help you find local stores and communities near you, available closer to retail launch via our website at cyberpunktcg.com.
Q: Will LGS receive the same Beta booster displays as Kickstarter backers, with all stretch goals applied?
A: LGSs that order Beta Booster Displays from distribution can receive a limited amount of Beta Booster Displays — these displays will have all of the stretch goals applied.
Q: What will the competitive scene look like?
A: We announced our Competitive Structure on our launch stream. We'll have accessible events run by our LGS partners and larger Competition Level Events, starting with the Edgerunner Regional Open and Night City District Open in Sets 1 and 2 respectively. These will lead to the Black Sapphire Invitational Championship and ultimately, the Cyberpunk TCG World Championship!
Q: When will large organised play (like Night City District Open) begin? Which team member has had the most internal testing wins?
A: We are doing our best to run our first large event before the end of the year! Our biggest internal tournament was won by Cree, Head of Marketing. Most wins overall, due to sheer volume of games played, probably goes to Chris Solis!
Q: Will there be promo prize packs for organised play? What will they contain?
A: We will have promos for every event listed in our Organised Play Structure. These will include special foiling, alt-arts, and more across a variety of events.
Q: What limits will there be on dice in competitive play?
A: Our current intention is to add dice checks to our deck check processes. We want to make sure that dice are treated with the same scrutiny as any other gameplay material in a competitive environment.
Q: What cosmetic designs will be allowed? Will heavy metal dice be allowed?
A: One of our design intentions is using a traditional polyhedral dice set so that players can use whatever dice they want. That said, we encourage you to use our dice — we think they're pretty cool!
Q: When will we get more info on the judge program?
A: We'll start talking about our Judge Programme following the Kickstarter campaign's conclusion.
Q: Will there be a TO software? What about pre-release style events?
A: We will definitely have a TO software. We're still in the evaluation stages and will take a look at Longshanks. We'll also have an event-focused website closer to retail release.
Q: Will there be online/offline large-scale events hosted by WeirdCo for prizing?
A: Yes, there sure will be. Feel free to check out our Organised Play Structure graphic posted on our socials recently.
Q: How long is the average game?
A: Our target for a single game between two players familiar with their decks is 15 minutes!
Q: Which mechanic was least represented in the Alpha, and which will be expanded on most after Set 1?
A: Quickhacks are one of my favourite card types that were not represented in the Alpha Kit experience. I'm looking forward to everyone getting to play with those cards on full release and after!
Q: Are the Beta/Retail Starter Decks going to be significantly changed from the Alpha versions?
A: Our Beta and Retail Starter Decks will be full 40-card legal decks that heighten the experience.
Q: What benefit is there to getting the starter decks on Kickstarter versus waiting for retail?
A: If you purchase the Common Cyberdecks Pledge Tier on Kickstarter, you will also receive the Nova Rare Rebecca promo card unlocked when we hit $10M. The Starter Decks also include the Beta symbol that won't be available for retail. If you followed the Kickstarter before it began or signed up via email, you may also be eligible for a foil Nova Rare Lucy promo card. Depending on how the rest of the campaign goes, we may have even more stretch goals that further benefit this pledge tier.
Q: Are there cards with the same name but different stats/mechanics?
A: There are cards that have the same name but different subnames with different stats and mechanics, yes. There are multiple versions of Jackie Welles and Goro Takemura already in the Alpha Kit.
Q: Can I only pick 2 colours for a deck?
A: You can indeed have 3 Legends with 3 different colours.
Q: Will every card have an Iconic Rare alt-art chance, or only Legends?
A: Most of our Iconic Rare cards are Legends, but some will be other card types!
Q: Will there be metal cards in booster packs?
A: There are no plans to have metal cards in booster packs at this time. Currently, the only way to get metal cards is via the Kickstarter Beta Box and tiers.
Q: Will a Lucy Legend card be available in booster packs?
A: Lucy will not be available in Welcome to Night City booster packs.
Q: How many cards are in one booster pack?
A: There are 12 cards in both the Kickstarter Booster and the Retail Booster.
Q: How many copies of each starter deck do I need to buy to get a full playset?
A: You'll need two copies of a starter deck to have a full playset of everything. Each Starter will have three Legends exclusive to the Starter Deck, while the mechanically unique cards will have two copies each.
Q: Will the pricing seen on sites like Card Market be the RRP going forward?
A: Our price per pack for retail will be similar to the Kickstarter campaign. Some of the prices you're seeing online are set by the sellers and retailers themselves. We will have MSRPs (Minimum Suggested Retail Prices) and those are going to be in line with other products in the industry.
Q: Does the free shipping at T6 (Afterlife) and T7 (Legends) tiers extend to add-ons?
A: Everything included in T6 and T7 — including the accessories bundle — will have free shipping. However, additional add-ons that are not included in the tier itself but added separately will incur their own shipping costs.
Q: Will there be an update on shipping for EU backers including VAT?
A: We are working closely with our local fulfilment partners to figure out the most efficient and customer-friendly way to ship and deliver the product to EU backers. We'll have a full update on shipping and taxes before the end of the campaign.
Q: What about VAT for Norwegian backers specifically?
A: The logistics team will look into Norway specifically and get back to the whole community when we make our shipping update.
Q: Could you clarify which countries orders will be shipped from, including customs duties for US orders?
A: We will be working with a variety of fulfilment partners around the world! Stay tuned for a shipping update later in the campaign.
Q: Can you update shipping estimates to include Africa?
A: We will have a full update on shipping during the Kickstarter campaign. We're currently working closely with our fulfilment partners and will have all of this information in a subsequent update.
Q: With most famous Cyberpunk characters in Set 1, what are the plans for content in Set 2 and beyond?
A: We are currently in active design on sets for the next two years with concepts planned out for the years to come!
Q: Will you be working with Mike Pondsmith on bringing characters from Cyberpunk 2020 and RED TTRPGs into the TCG?
A: As you can see, we're pulling from a lot of different extended media related to Cyberpunk 2077 and Edgerunners. Our goal is to stay devoted to our source material as best we can, and we universally love Mike Pondsmith's vision for the Cyberpunk IP as a whole. We are partnered very closely with CDPR on ALL of their upcoming releases and you can expect this content in the TCG!
Q: Will you be adding characters from Phantom Liberty and Edgerunners Season 2 in the future?
A: We will definitely have Phantom Liberty and Edgerunners characters in the future!
Q: What is the scope of Set 1 in terms of the IP?
A: Set 1 will focus on the core Cyberpunk 2077 experience. We aren't able to speak about future products at this time, but CDPR is very excited to work with us to showcase a wide range of the Cyberpunk universe!
Q: What's the plan for keeping engagement when you've covered all the well-known characters?
A: CDPR and us have a lot of plans we aren't ready to share yet. The team has no concerns around the quality and quantity of content the Cyberpunk universe provides. We love the idea of developing new stories and characters — we recently hired a Narrative Designer who has worked on other TCG story narratives in the past.
Q: How exactly is CDPR involved in this project?
A: Working with CDPR is awesome! Our team has multiple meetings weekly with CDPR — reviewing art, gameplay, character representation, organised play, and strategy. We just did a demo in their Boston office and they loved playing.
Q: What is the L5R tease about?
A: For the L5R inspiration, we're not ready to share the full details currently. We can tell you that this is probably the most exciting and innovative part of the Cyberpunk TCG. Both the WeirdCo team and the CDPR team are deep fans of Cyberpunk, TCGs, and L5R. We can't wait to show you what we have in store. For new players, we have put the emphasis on having accessible gameplay from the get-go, and our game system is easy to learn even for players new to TCGs. We will also have a full demo programme.
Q: Is there a plan for a sustainable competitive game? What about community simulators?
A: Our intention is to provide events that are both accessible and exciting for players to keep coming back to. Our competitive structure provides an easily approachable ladder to the top at our World Championship. WeirdCo will work closely with CDPR in having a framework that allows for the existence of community simulators. We think digital simulators, when done right, can be really beneficial for the entire community.
Q: What is the spoiler season timeline?
A: We will continue our card reveal spoiler season all the way up until the Kickstarter campaign has been fulfilled. We are currently doing a mixture of art reveals and card reveals, with more art reveals at this stage so as not to spoil too many mechanics too early.
Q: Will the full Starter Decks be shown before the Kickstarter ends?
A: The full Starter Decks will be spoiled prior to Kickstarter fulfilment, where you'll see them upgraded, refined, and still accessible from where the Alpha Kit gameplay is now.
Q: Will there be any exclusive promos or merch at PAX?
A: We will have some Alpha Kits to give away and some test prints too!
Q: Will you be at PAX Unplugged?
A: We recently announced all our currently planned 2026 convention appearances — we'll be at PAX East, Gen Con, Anime Expo, and Spiel Essen. We currently have no plans for PAX Unplugged.
Q: Are the binders sideloading or toploading?
A: Sideloading!
Q: Will it be legal to play Legends in toploaders or snapcases?
A: Our intention is to support this when your 3 Legends are indistinguishable from each other. If that is not the case, you can pull out your fancy version when it becomes face-up!
Q: Will there be a mulligan in Cyberpunk TCG?
A: Yes. Please review our full rule set. Our Legend system was also designed to help address variance issues.
Q: Do Eddies "float" between turns?
A: They do not. We found players who have not played games with this type of mechanic struggle with it a lot.
Q: How does Overtime work?
A: Your understanding is correct — if both players start a turn without taking a new Gig, there need to already be 12 Gigs in play. The only win condition in the game is via the gig dice system.
Q: If a Legend is played using Go Solo, can it still be spent for Eddies?
A: If a Legend is played using Go Solo, it is no longer able to be spent for Eddies.
Q: Can there be surprise blockers?
A: Currently, based on the cards we have shown, you can use River Ward's ability to equip "Mandibular Upgrade" to a unit when your opponent attacks — this unit can now block the attack as a surprise. Legends with Blocker in the Legend area can't redirect attacks.
Q: What does each colour represent in the Cyberpunk TCG?
A: High level, our colours are based on factors like colour psychology and the skill trees in Cyberpunk 2077. We know players are excited about this topic, so we're planning on rolling out more details in a large release closer to launch!
Q: Will all major characters have multiple card versions?
A: We enjoy designing multiple cards around characters at different points in their story. While not all characters will receive this treatment, characters like Goro Takemura — who accompany players over many hours in-game — will be represented that way.
Q: Will Alpha Kit cards be legal for future play?
A: Our current, tentative vision is to allow Alpha Kit cards that are unchanged for the full release. The full release has gone through iteration since we made the Alpha Kit product back in 2025, in part due to community feedback.
Q: How is WeirdCo approaching card authenticity and anti-proxy measures?
A: We're working closely with our manufacturing partners as well as our grading partner CGC to ensure we can provide maximum security and authenticity in the TCG.
Q: What are WeirdCo's plans for the long term? How committed are you to the game?
A: I personally love our game. It has accessible rules with skill expression and complexity at every step of the way. We are working on a two-year active timeline for game design, with concepts planned out for years to come! The team here is made up of veterans of the space — we've seen TCGs come and go — and we are all in. We fully intend to support the TCG for many years.
Q: What does WeirdCo see as the three most important factors for a TCG's long-term survival?
A: 1) Players who want to play the game must be able to get the cards they want. We chose to launch through Kickstarter to help ensure product accessibility. 2) A reason to go to your local game store — LGSs are the lifeblood of TCGs, and we're working closely with CD Projekt Red to create a strong organised play structure. 3) Players want to feel heard by the community — we're embracing WeirdCo's value of transparency through platforms like this AMA.
Q: What TCGs did team members work on previously, and what inspired Cyberpunk TCG?
A: Our team has touched a ton of trading card games! We have team members who worked on Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, Lorcana, Marvel Snap, Gundam TCG, Union Arena, Dragon Ball Super Card Game, Universus, and other board games and digital card games. While the team used those experiences to fine-tune their perceptions of what makes a great product, we built Cyberpunk TCG from the ground up asking: "What makes for the most approachable, genuine Cyberpunk experience?"
Q: Who did the WeirdCo team romance in Cyberpunk 2077?
A: Panam for at least two of us — Cree (Head of Marketing) and Richard (Head of Game Design). Mine is Judy! — Nick
Q: Which cybernetic implant would you get installed?
A: Kiroshi Optics so I can read what my cards do and not play them just because I like the art. (WeirdCo Nick canonically doesn't read cards.)
Q: Did anyone at WeirdCo make bets on how well the Kickstarter would go?
A: We talked about it a lot internally, but no bets were made, haha. It did a lot better than any of our predictions, though!
